What is a Brazilian wax, or Hollywood wax treatment, and how does it differ from a regular bikini wax?
The terms 'Brazilian Waxing' and 'Hollywood Waxing' are terms often used to refer to the removal of hair in the genital, upper thigh and groin area.
Brazilian bikini waxes have been increasing in popularity since the early 90's, in the UK and rumour has it that Brazilian waxing was introduced to the US in 1987 by seven Brazilian-born sisters. Prices at beauty salons may range anywhere from £20 to £100 or more.
Basically, with the Brazilian wax, hair is removed in front, behind (yes, your bum) and everything in between. Often a "landing strip" is left in the front, but some clients opt for everything removed.
'Hollywood Waxing' refers to the removal of all genital hair and this includes hair removal around the perineum, vagina and anus. It is becoming increasingly common for men as well as women to ask for Brazilian Waxing.
Here are some handy tips when visiting a salon for your Brazilian Waxing experience:)
* Check out the salon that does Brazilian waxing first to make sure it is hygienic and that the aesthetician is licensed. The license should normally be displayed.
* One way of finding a good Brazilian waxing practitioner is to ask friends. It is better not to just take 'pot luck' at any random salon.
* After underwear is removed a beautician will normally ask you to lie down and raise your legs. Talcum powder may be sprinkled All Over your bottom, anus and vaginal areas. Hot Wax is then spread over these areas and then pulled off with synthetic patches or strips.
* Well versed practitioners will likely minimise the number of repeat applications over the same area. Those less skilled in the art may go over the same area thus prolonging the pain or discomfort. To be avoided!
* An experienced aesthetician will pull off the wax in a clean, fast movement. A less experienced one may hesitate causing more pain.
* As you will be asked to spread your legs and adopt various compromising positions, just act matter of fact about it all and treat it as normal. This will help you and the practitioner feel a little less self-conscious.
* Check that fresh coverings are used for your treatment and that the the waxing supplies are properly sanitised and disposed of in a hygienic way after use.
* Make sure your appointment is a good few days, or better one week after a period so that your skin is less sensitive.
* Make sure the hair is trimmed to a few millimetres. It should be free from oils and lotion so that the patches or wax strips can get a good grip of that troublesome hair.
* Any pain you may experience can be reduced by using an antiseptic cream in advance. You may also wish to apply a soothing lotion containing Aloe Vera or Calamine Lotion afterwards to reduce the likelihood of any itching or discomfort.

Could I use the wax strip on my vagina area?
I just bought these wax strip in a hurry and its saying to use the strips on the bikini area only. But I want to wax everything and make it clean. I also shaved this morning, can I still wax off the stubbs?
It will really, really hurt, and won't be 100% successful on the first go, either. If you have stubble on your bikini area you can totally wax those off, but believe me...the hair around your intimate area is coarse and is not plucked easily. It gets coarser as you go lower, and becomes difficult and truly quite painful to lift.
I strongly recommend a specialized shaver instead. Totally worth the money and has guaranteed results that are less painful, way more successful, and leaves less of a chance of ingrown hairs and such.
