Make this Quick and Easy Cherry Parson for a Dessert that will impress your Guests
Good news for all you harried cooks and bakers out there, what could be easier on a busy day than a dressed up store-bought angel food cake? If you are pressed for time but want to impress your guests, family, co-workers, etc with a fancy dessert, make this Lovely and Delicious Cherry Parson. This easy recipe uses an angel food cake which you can pick up in the bakery department of your favorite grocery store. In a matter of minutes you will turn this basic cake into an impressive dessert using only a simple topping, maraschino cherries, and toasted almonds!
CHERRY PARSON
2 pkgs dessert topping mix
1 cup cold milk
1 cup powdered sugar
1 pkg (8-oz) cream cheese, softened
1 bakery angel food cake
slivered toasted almonds
slivered maraschino cherries
8 to 10 stemmed maraschino cherries for garnish
Combine the dessert topping and milk in a mixing bowl and beat well. Gradually add the powdered sugar to the topping mixture. Beat the softened cream cheese into the mixture adding small amounts at a time. Cut the cake into 3 layers. Place the bottom layer on a cake plate and spread with a layer of the topping mixture. Repeat with the middle layer. Add the top layer and spread with more topping mixture then cover the sides of the cake with the remaining mixture. Decorate the sides of the cake with the slivered toasted almonds and slivered cherries. Refrigerate for a few minutes. Garnish the top with stemmed maraschino cherries before serving. This makes a very pretty quick dessert.

How to Toast Almonds
Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
Spread almonds on a single layer on baking sheet.
Bake for 5 minutes, shuffle nuts and turn over, then continue to bake for 5 more minutes.
Remove toasted almonds from baking sheet with spatula and store in airtight container.
CRISPY ALMOND CRUSTLES
Toasted glazed almonds combines with crispy cereal and decadent chocolate in these easy, delicious candies. The caramelized almonds elevate the taste of these clusters, and give them a deep, rich flavor that pairs well with semi-sweet chocolate.
Ingredients:
1 cup sliced almonds
2 tbsp light corn syrup
1/3 cup powdered sugar
1 cup crisped rice cereal
1.5 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
Preparation:
1. Prepare two baking sheets by lining them with aluminum foil. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees.
2. In a medium bowl, combine the finely sliced almonds and the corn syrup. Stir to coat the almonds with the syrup, then add the powdered sugar and stir until the mixture is well-mixed.
3. Spread the almonds in a thin layer on one of the baking sheet, and bake them for 5-6 minutes, or until golden and fragrant. Allow the almonds to cool for a few minutes, until crisp. While they are still slightly warm, loosen them from the baking sheet and allow them to cool completely.
4. While the almonds are cooling, place the chocolate chips in a large microwave-safe bowl and microwave them for one minute. Stir until the chocolate is smooth and homogenous.
5. Chop the almonds into small pieces. Add the almond pieces to the chocolate, reserving ¼ cup of the almonds to use as decoration, if desired. Add the crisped rice cereal, and stir until the mixture is well-combined.
6. Using a small cookie scoop or teaspoon, drop small spoonfuls of candy onto the second prepared baking sheet. If you reserved some chopped almonds, sprinkle them on top of the clusters while the chocolate is still wet.
7. Place the candy in the refrigerator to set the chocolate for about 30 minutes. Crispy Almond Clusters can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week.
