Wrinkle Cream Is A Bad Birthday Present For Your Wife
We have all done the last minute shopping necessary for maintenance of our marriage. We effective forgot all about the birthday, until one of our wives friends asks during small talk what we are getting our wife for her birthday. Ooops, we have to snap into action. We think that we are sly so rather than getting her something that you know she wants, that's she made hints about, we are gonna really surprise her. We are going to look for something she uses all the time that she would never think we would know about. As men, our attention span to such a mission is rather limited and as a result we find the "gift idea" along the path of our daily routine. The next morning, BAM, there it is, the perfect idea. That wrinkle cream we discussed buying because it costs more than just a moisturizer.
Remembering how she looked when she asked if she should spend the money, we are off on our mission. Perfect, here we are just three days from the big day and we have our plan already set in motion, she is lucky to have such a thoughtful man. The search on the internet begins, trying to find the best deal, but more importantly who can ship it out right away. Within a few clicks and a total of six minutes of thought we have located and purchased the perfect gift for her fortieth birthday.
All that is left now is to buy a card, hopefully one that says all the sweet stuff for us, so we can say something like, ‘this card said it all' and sign it, of course remembering to include love in the signature. Done and done. And so the next few days pass, on the day of her birthday it occurs to you that geeze I hope this product gets here today. But they said it will, so why worry beyond that. But to be sure you go card shopping on the way home thinking maybe I should get a funny card that jokes about age and growing old, she loves your personality. You venture home for a night of romance, honestly thinking that your job is not only done, but done well.
Your wife is dressed up, looking spectacular, as if going somewhere. You shower get into something comfortable and it is not until she sees you in your sweat pants that you realize she wants to go to dinner. Quickly mustering the story of hoping to spend time alone with her comfortable, just taking a break from it all on her special day, you realize that maybe you should get ready to leave. Already busted about the fact that you have no special reservations lined up, you decide to take her somewhere nice.
Staring at the prices and noting the fact that with the express shipping charge on a product that still has not arrived this birthday is going to cost a lot more than you wanted. So your bad mood sets in, you know it's her birthday, but you don't need this for your birthday, just a couple a beers and a decent burger. But this is your wife, and she likes different things. So you put on your ‘I'm having a good time, but secretly I want to kill everyone face', and because you are so deft at our disguise she has no idea about your mood and furthermore there is no tension at the table.
The night rapidly unfolds with short conversation and a large bill, and clearly this was not going your way. So you go hoping that the sweet words of your cards combined with the thoughtful gift will smooth things over and you might get lucky. But noooo, it is just getting started. Luckily the gift is there, and you present it to her. She opens the package without a word. Granted it is not wrapped, but she knows me, right? Her face is left fighting off rage as she proclaims something to the effect of ‘why don't you just get me slim fast too' and then it hits you. I actually bought my wife wrinkle cream for her birthday; to guys this is not a huge error, she uses it, this one is free. But to a woman this gift implies things, implies aging, something at 40 no woman really wants to deal with. Quickly, you pull out the big guns...the card with the sweet stuff on it, eloquently signed by you. We are beginning to pull ourselves out of the whole. The card thing is working, then this "extra" card, the one that is sure to clinch the night. She reads it with both amazement and pure horror, simply places it down kisses your forehead and goes to bed, locking the door behind her.
Left on the couch, with nothing else to hope for and a day of apologies to come, you reflect on the decisions that got you here. As you lay there and find some level of humor in the whole thing, it occurs to you that apparently giving your wife wrinkle cream for her birthday is not a great idea.
