Is a Grey eye color rare?
I have deep, metallic-looking grey eyes and they are naturally that way. They're pretty,but I am the only one in my family that has actual grey eyes. My dad has grey-blue eyes,but mine are pure grey. I was just wondering,is that rare or uncommon? I've never met anyone else with grey eyes,and I'm not sure how my eyes turned out so grey if the rest of my family doesn't have pure grey eyes?
Your grey eye color is actually a shade of blue - a very pale blue to be sure, but still a shade of blue.
You get your eye color from both of your parents. Blue is a recessive gene, meaning that both parents had to contribute a blue gene. Lets say that a brown gene is a B (I'm guessing about your mother's eye color here), and the blue gene is a b. According to Mendelian genetics, your father's genes are bb, and your mother's genes are Bb. There's a 50% chance that the children in your family will have Brown eyes; 50% will have blue eyes.
