Is Mary Kay A Scam Or Legit Opportunity? - Mary Kay Review
I decided to investigate an opportunity called Mary Kay due to the number of scams running online, this is what I found out...
Mary Kay Inc has Mary Kay as its flagship brand of skincare cosmetics and products. With headquarters in Addison, Texas, the company was founded by Mary Kay Ash on September 13, 1963. The company went public on 1968 when it started trading over the counter market. In 1976, the company was big enough to be officially traded on the New York Stock Exchange. Ms Ash took back full ownership of the company in 1985 through a private leverages buyout. Since then, Mary Kay has held its financial information private.
Originally, Mary Kay was marketing nine skincare products that are almost al based on recipes for tanning to make the skin smoother and clearer despite aging. In the United States, there are now up to 200 products under the Mary Kay brand. Some of those products are not allowed to be marketed in other countries where there are stricter regulations and prohibitions about certain active ingredients. There are some products that are specifically and especially sold in target nations, like the Mary Kay Whitener, which is a hit in Asian countries.
Mary Kay is known by many as a company that is employing pyramid schemes in network marketing. However, the company is consistent and firm in emphasizing that Mary Kay is a truly legitimate business offering products to consumers. Thus, the company insists that its marketing scheme should not be associated or even compared to the usually fraudulent pyramid scams that have fooled many people around the globe. Majority of the company’s sales force are making money through selling products to end users. This makes Mary Kay legitimate. Sales force members are paid based on productivity of their recruit, not by mere recruiting, which is common in pyramid schemes and scams.
This seems to be a legit opportunity to pursue, but what is missing?
You need proper marketing knowledge to make this opportunity work. I can say that I've wasted a lot of money on the WRONG information. I use to do home meetings, call leads, distribute brochures and even ask my family and friends to buy my products. These methods didn't work.

What are the real costs of selling Mary Kay?
I've been trying to research the cost of selling Mary Kay. I work full time, so I'm not fooling myself that I can make a living off this, but even if it's a little here and there. I just need to know what it really costs me. I know the $100 starter kit, but is there a min. I have to sell or buy each month like other companies? What about a fee? I don't want why I should sell it or how great it is, I just want to know what I'm looking at spending.
After you purchase your starter kit it is up to you what you do from there. You have a year to place and order but in order to get the 50% discount you need to be active which is a $200 wholesale order. I was skeptical at first but that really is only just one show. (when new you might only make 200 -300 a show as a seasoned consultant I do 500 -600 a show 4-6 people) You stay active for 3 month from you last 200 order. It is a little hard to explain via email. Did you consultant give you a contract it is a lot of small print but it explains it.
You are starting a business so you have business expenses to make it successful. If you choose a website it is $25.00 for the first year $50.00 there after. The books come out quarterly you can enroll in the company program which is .65 cents each to mail and includes a sample. Or you can purchase packs for 10 from Mary Kay for $3.50. If you choice to order business cards that is another expense depending on where you purchase them. Other expenses to consider are samples and demo products but remember these things are all tax deduction depending on your state consult a tax advisor (mileage, supplies and starter kit were all write offs for me).
as for the other comments I did not have the same experiences. I was never pressured to purchase inventory and my family and friends are not my customers base. I agree with going to the meetings that is were you learn and is a key to your success. Please feel free to email me with any other questions.
