Kay Jewelry And Birthstones
Kay Jewelry has been around for some ninety years now. The simple idea of two innovative brothers, Sol and Edmund Kaufmann from Reading, Pennsylvania gave way for the inception of Kay. They opened the first Kay Jewelry in the corner of the furniture store owned by their father.
Originally, Kay was selling things aside from jewelries. Some of their initial products comprised of eyeglasses, electric razors, musical jewelry boxes, silverware sets, kitchen appliances and even radios. But then later on, as time changed, Kay concentrated in the jewelry business.
Owning a piece of jewelry of special meaning such as those of your gemstones, would not just surely serve as an adornment to your body but will also be an expression of your individuality.
Know Your Gemstone. A gemstone which is also often called birthstones, are crystal fragments from the earth's heart. These fragments are cut, shaped, polished and the colors enhanced to create adornments or jewelries.
If you are born in January, Garnet is your gemstone. Garnet comes in almost a rainbow of colors, varying from deep red to opulent orange and golden tones, supple violets and lavenders, and striking greens. This gem is believed to promote loyalty, sincerity and devotion. Amethyst is the gemstone for February. It is a purple strain of quartz ranging from soft slightly pinkish violet up to rich grape purple. Aquamarine is for people born in March. As its name denotes it, this gemstone has the color of the sea and legend has it that it is the treasure of mermaids. When mined and cut most Aquamarines are greenish in hue. For a purer blue color, the stones are enhanced by heating. Diamonds are valued for their brilliance, purity and elegance. It is April's gemstone. Diamonds derived its name from the Greek word 'adamas' which means unconquerable or indestructible. A diamond's worth is determined by its cut, clarity, color and carat.
May's gemstone is represented by Emerald. Emerald is commonly associated with rebirth and abundance because of its rich green color which often brings in mind the colors of spring, symbolizing regeneration of life and hope of new possibilities. For June, it is Pearl. Pearls can be natural or cultured. Pearls unlike other gemstones are produced by living organisms like oysters and mollusks. Contrary to beliefs that pearls are produced white, pearls' color varies. It varies from champagne pink, yellow, golden, lavender, gray and black. July's gem is Ruby - the gem of smoldering desire and passion. Throughout most of documented history, ruby has been portrayed as the most valuable. It is believed to have the ability to rekindle desire and promote good thoughts.
Peridot is a relatively soft gemstone. It is most desired in hues of lime and is the birthstone for August. This gemstone has been credited with magical and healing powers like the power to deflect evil and protection against nightmares. September is symbolized by Sapphire. Sapphire embodies an endless palette of blue colors but like all other gems, it is also found in other shades of red, violet, orange and even white. A perfect sapphire is a rare work of art. For the month of October, the gemstone is Opal. Admired as a symbol of purity, fidelity and hope and was nicknamed by the Romans as the Queen of Gems because it encompasses the shades and colors of all other gems. Opal has the ability to play with color. Another variety of quartz, Citrine is November's stone. Its color ranges from pale yellow to brown. And for people born in December, it is Topaz. It is a very durable gemstone but can be split with a single shrill blow, a character similar to diamond.

I,m looking for information on Mettlach plaques.?
mine were given to my parents for a wedding gift in 1941. they are oval and depict small children or cherubs . They are white on a background color of soft blue green. I saw similar ones on an auction website and I believe it referred to them as Panolith but they were a different shape and subject. Thanks for any help. Kay
