Proper Preparation Makes All the Difference When House Painting in Tempe

When you are thinking about starting a little house painting project, there are a few key points that you need to consider if you wish the paint job to not only look good, but to also look professional and have a long Lasting Finish.

Many people look for a quick fix, so they go out, choose some paint and come home and get stuck into it. This will definitely create a change within the home, however, unless proper care is taken in the preparation stages, the change could be very short lived and it could in fact, turn out to be a disaster.

As you are walking around your home you may notice that paint is peeling or cracking in certain rooms, or it could be that the window frames or doors have peeling paint as well. If this is the case, then it is extremely important to attend to these matters before you even think about lifting a paintbrush to the area.

Even if there is no direct evidence of peeling and cracking, it is important to prepare the surface correctly. If this step is not taken with care, or left out completely, signs of the wear and tear will come through. The wall surface, door or window frame will not be smooth, and the new paint when dry, will also be susceptible to peeling, flaking and cracking.

When painting a room within the house, have a look at the color of the existing paint. If it is a dark color and the new color is going to be a lighter shade, you will need to sand it back as much as possible and then apply an undercoat so that the surface becomes a neutral color. Existing blemishes will need to be sanded also and any paint that is cracking will need to be scraped away prior to the sanding process. You will be left with a smooth surface ready for the painting to begin.

If you are painting wooden surfaces in your home such as window frames and doors, it would also be a sensible idea to have a look and see if they need repairing before applying a fresh coat of paint. Wood will need to be sanded back and if there is evidence that the joins are coming apart, now would be the time to fix them, either with wood putty or a gap filler.

Some people prefer to leave their repair work and painting to the professionals and this is always a good idea to ensure the job is done correctly and so that the end result is as you had imagined.   This is particularly true with exterior house painting.
