Industry Notes Mandira Wirk
A product of London School of Fashion, Mandira Wirk started with her designing sojourn about five years ago. Having honed her skills in the art of fashion design from the international malls of London, Mandira blended the two domains into perfection. Her collections represents an attempt to make the working women appear fresh and glamorous, not just during working hours but even after a long day at work. Let's go and talk more about this beautiful designer.
What inspired you to take up this profession and your first break…. During my tenure in college, I had a team of 2 tailors and a master for my personal wardrobe which further graduated into designing clothes for my close friends and family. Before I realized, it became my profession. My first break was with Rina Dhaka in 1999 and it was a great learning experience. Design philosophy… For me design and style are an extension of a person's personality and attitude. An expression translated into Dressing in terms of color, co-ordinates and accessories. With fusion being my mainstay, my clothes exude class and wear ability which is reflected in easy silhouettes, minimal embroideries in straight and structured cuts.
Do you agree that fashion trend is getting repetitive? Fashion trends are not repetitive but every time they inspire new trends, they bring along newness with them, which makes it diverse from the original. These days every fashion body is claiming that they are promoting new talent? Your take… The last decade has seen the Indian design industry taking shape and emerging as an industry to watch out for in times to come. Fashion bodies like FDCI and FFI encourage emerging talent to display their creativity and also provide them with a platform, which recognizes their skills, aptitude and the desire to excel. These organizations also look at other initiatives, opportunities that will take new designers to the next level. The upcoming Fashion Hub... how helpful, is it going to be for the designers… The Fashion Hub has been proposed with a motive to bridge the gap in development within the fashion industry and promote young talents. It will serve the purpose of a permanent market-place for the Indian fashion industry to further their business transactions.
Do you think that Indian fashion industry has created a niche for itself in the global platform? Various segments of Indian economy have benefited from liberation and globalization, including the Indian fashion industry. In recent years, our fashion industry has evolved and carved a niche for itself in a highly demanding, ever changing global fashion industry.
The sector has been able to attract the talent and attention of the world, which is manifested through a large number of students passing out from the various fashion institutes and the recognition of work of Indian designers by global fashion houses. Clearly, there is no stopping the 'Indian designer'. They are slowly infiltrating into different markets. Designers that you admire or look up to… Ritu Kumar for me is the pioneer of 'Fashion' in India. Her understanding of ancient designs and innovative use of traditional crafts is commendable. Where will we see your next store….Mumbai is my next step. I am in the middle of finalizing the location. Do not want to compromise on that.
Style icons according to you…Audrey Hepburn and Simi Garewal. What are the trends this season… One shoulder dresses accompanied with overall interpretation of drapery, then jumpsuits. This season is all about shades of yellow and beige, all with metallic shine and the gleam of liquid gold shimmer also Bold, Oversized jewellery and statement pieces are big this summer. Mandira's fitness secret… I started exercising...: At the age of 20, though I have always been an athlete and exercise has been an integral part of my daily routine. The only way to keep healthy is to keep fit. Working out is essential for me. It completes my day.

MAC NC20 full Coverage Foundation?
Hi, can anyone tell me please how bright MAC NC20 Full Coverage foundation is. I have used NC35 full coverage but i just find it way too dark for me, it looks ok even though it is dark but i couldnt possibly wear it without tan on my arms etc cos i would just look ridiculous. i want something that is more suited to my skin colour, which is fairly pale but not "milky white" if that makes sense!! i cannot wear make ups with a pink undertone it has to be beige, so therefore i'd like to know if anyone else with the same sorta skin colour as myself has ever tried the full coverage NC20 and how was it? thanks xx
I have the same color skin and when I put it on it looks very orange. I always put on blush after to lessen the orange
