The Key Differences Between Open Cell And Closed Cell Polyurethane Foams
Polyurethane foam has many uses and foam manufacturers will advise that the choice of foam depends on the requirements and characteristics of each individual installation; strength, vapour control, available space, etc. Generally, foams come in one of two categories; open cell foams and closed cell foams. Both types are commonly used in many different applications, although some are inappropriate in specific circumstances. Here is a brief overview of some of the different aspects offered by open and closed cell foams:
Open cell foam Open-cell foam is soft, like a bubble-wrap. The cell walls are broken and all of the space in the material is filled with air, making the foam soft or weak. The insulation value of this foam is related to the insulation value of the calm air inside the matrix of broken cells. The densities of open-cell foams are around half to three-quarters of a pound per cubic foot.
Closed cell foam Depending on its density, closed-cell foam has varying degrees of hardness. Unlike open cell foam, the cells are not broken but piled together in a compact configuration. This makes it strong because the cells are rigid enough to take a lot of pressure. The cells are full of a special gas, selected to make the insulation value of the foam as high as possible.
Advantages and disadvantages The principal advantages of closed-cell foam over open-cell foam are its strength and greater resistance to leakage of air or water vapour. The advantage of open-cell foam is that, being less dense, foam manufacturers require less material and therefore, it is less expensive. However, open-cell foam is less versatile and would not be used below ground where it could absorb water. Water is a poor insulator when compared to air, so this would be contradictory to the thermal performance of open cell foam.

Question about Cosmetic allergy?
I use Revlon Compact Foundation. I bought this pack about 1.5 years ago and have used it occassionally. But since last few months, when I use it, I feel something unusual. I feel very tired, sleepy/drowsy. And just wearing it for few hours makes me feel as if I am extremely tired.
Am I getting allergic to this cosmetic? Should I change the brand? Please suggest.
One more question. Can the sponge be washed and reused or should buy the new one to replace the used one? How do the branded sponges differ from non-branded ones?
I am very ignorant about beauty and cosmetics. All suggestions are welcome.
Thanks.
I have used this brand and cosmetic since last 8 years but haven't noticed this condition before.
Does this kind of cosmetic have an 'expiry date' and how many years generally it has? Although I dont think my unit may have crossed its expiry date but just considering an possibility.
I doubt your makeup is making you feel this way--try taking a B12 vitamin for an energy boost. Replace foundations every 3-6 months if you use them occasionally. Same with mascara. Eyeshadows and powders can last 8-12 months though. Sponges and utensils should be disposed of once a month, even with occasional use. Be sure to wash the sponges with antibacterial soap AFTER EACH use though. If you're looking to change brands then I'd recommend going to Sephora because they analyze your skin and help you pick out the best brand and shade. If you have no local store go to sephora.com.
